How to choose a genuine sea view

On the Amalfi Coast, “sea view” can mean anything from a glimpse between buildings to a wide blue panorama. At Amalfi Azure Retreat, room categories are separated by both outlook and outdoor space, so the most useful question is not simply whether a room faces the water, but how much of the water can be seen from the bed, bath and terrace.
Room categories explained
Classic Sea View rooms sit on floors two and three and offer a Juliet balcony or compact terrace. They are a smart choice for guests who spend most days exploring and want morning light with a clear visual connection to the bay. Deluxe Sea View rooms add a deeper terrace, two chairs and a small table. Their higher position generally gives a more open view, although a few are partially screened by mature bougainvillea.
Panoramic rooms are the best value for travellers who prioritise scenery over floor area. They have corner glazing and an approximately 12-square-metre terrace. Signature suites add a separate living area and a 20-square-metre terrace; selected suites include a plunge pool, but these face southeast and trade late sunset colour for brighter morning light.
Orientation, floors and weather
Southwest-facing rooms receive the famous golden-hour light and are the most requested from June to September. They can also be warmer in the afternoon, particularly on the upper floors. Southeast-facing rooms are cooler at the end of the day and work well for early risers. Winter visitors should note that low cloud can temporarily soften the horizon, while summer haze is normal and does not indicate a poor view.
Value comparison
| Category | Outdoor space | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Classic | Juliet balcony / small terrace | Explorers and shorter stays |
| Deluxe | Approx. 8 m² terrace | Breakfast outdoors |
| Panoramic | Approx. 12 m² terrace | Wide views at a moderate premium |
| Signature suite | Approx. 20 m² terrace | Long stays and private entertaining |
Rates vary by season, but the usual upgrade from Classic to Deluxe is €70–€130 per night, while Panoramic rooms command approximately €150–€240 more. A suite is a larger step and makes most sense when the room itself is part of the holiday. Ask for a floor plan if mobility, lift proximity or terrace access is important.
